7th Grade Battle Creek Math and Science Center Kits
Seventh GradeScience Unit 1 - Energy Effects – 7PS1 The exploration into energy continues with investigations into the effects of light energy and solar energy. Students gain a greater understanding of the sun’s warming and lighting of the Earth, and apply their knowledge to the process of photosynthesis. They investigate energy transfer through waves and the interaction with matter.
Science Unit 2 - Chemical Properties – 7PS2 This unit provides a more in-depth study of physical properties (boiling point, density, and color) and chemical properties (pH, reactivity, and flammability). Students draw on their knowledge of properties and use evidence to describe physical and chemical change. Seventh grade students are introduced to the Periodic Table of the Elements as they explore compounds and elements.
Science Unit 3 - Weather, Climate, and Me – 7ES Weather, Climate, and Me provides a means for students to apply their understanding of solar energy to phenomena they observe, hear, and read about. They explore the relationship between solar warming and the water cycle, warming of the atmosphere, land, and oceans, and the effect on weather and climate. Seventh grade students explain how human activities have changed the land, oceans, and atmosphere and the consequences that humans face today.
Science Unit 4 - Cells, Cell Division, and Photosynthesis –7LS This unit takes a microscopic look at how organisms function, grow, and reproduce. Students’ investigations into living things include the study of cells, how cells make up human body tissues, organs, and organ systems that have specialized functions. They compare the cellular structure and function of plant cells and the process of photosynthesis. Students explore how genetic information is carried from one generation to the next, both asexually and sexually.

Materials You Need
- A binder for Science only!
- Plenty of pens and pencils
- Colored pencils, markers and crayons
- Black Sharpie
- Kleenex and Hand Sanitizer
Success Tip: Use class time provided to stay organized, and make sure you get help when you need it!
Expected Behavior:
Be Responsible
Come to class on time with your required materials and use time wisely. Turn in assignments on time and ask for help when you need it.
Be Respectful
Pretty much everything can be counted under this expectation from being quiet while others are talking to putting supplies away properly. IF you take a moment to think about what you say or do, it can make a big difference.
Be Accountable
Don't give excuses for your behavior and accept the consequences that come with the choices you make.

Binder Organization
ALL of your work for this class will be organized into a binder that will be periodically checked and graded. A key to a successful science grade is the early development of an organizational system. It is imperative that you have this for the first week of school, as I will be giving you labs to include in the binder, for the first card marking.
LATE WORK IS NOT COOL!
Late class/home work is not accepted unless you have a REALLY good excuse! If you miss a lab day, it is YOUR responsibility to schedule a time for make up. I am available during lunch and after school to assist you.
